Materials & Fabrics
Fabric Selection
Fabric selection considers weight, drape, and durability. Natural fibers preferred for breathability and longevity. Synthetic blends evaluated case by case based on intended use.
Weight determines appropriate construction methods. Heavy fabrics require stronger seams and may need interfacing. Light fabrics require finer needles and thread.
Thread & Findings
Thread selected to match or complement fabric color and weight. Cotton thread for natural fibers. Polyester thread for synthetic blends. Silk thread for delicate fabrics.
Buttons, zippers, and other findings chosen for compatibility with fabric and garment style. Weight and size considered. Durability evaluated for intended use.
Interfacing
Interfacing weight matches fabric weight. Fusible or sew-in selected based on fabric type and construction requirements. Applied where structure needed: collars, cuffs, button plackets, waistbands.
Grain direction respected. Pressing done with appropriate temperature and steam. Excess trimmed after application.
Material Selection Guide
Natural Fibers
Cotton, linen, wool, and silk offer breathability and durability. Preferred for most garment types.
Synthetic Blends
Polyester and other synthetics evaluated case by case. Considered for specific performance requirements.
Fabric Weight
Weight determines construction methods. Heavy fabrics require stronger seams. Light fabrics need finer handling.
Drape and Texture
Fabric drape affects garment silhouette. Texture influences construction approach and finish selection.
